I will always be indebted to a very special and talented writer and friend (whose own work can be found here at In-sister), for suggesting I read the work of American writer Ursula K. Le Guin. While Le Guin is famous for her incredible range of science fiction, I love reading her essays on writing. Her thoughts and theories about the way writing is linked with community, imagination and communication are profound and still remain relevant today. The Wave in the Mind contains an essay called Operating Instructions. In it Le Guin writes, “listening is an act of community which takes space, time, and silence. Reading is a means of listening”.
One of my favourite things to do is discover and discuss books: what others are reading, what I’m reading, famous books, recent books, and books I should have read but still haven’t gotten around to yet. And so, every month I’ll choose a book to read and then post my thoughts about it here. There is a comments section, so feel free to read the same one and post your thoughts. I look forward to reading and listening with you.
